Partnership for summer program with Chaldean Community Foundation announced!
MARZ will visit up to 72 children during a five week program to enhance STEM education!
We are pleased to announce that we’ll be partnering with the Chaldean Community Foundation to provide weekly visits with their anticipated 72 students over the summer.
We were approached Leila Kello, Director of Fund Development, about providing regular programming during the newly launched Summer Discover Camp a few months ago and were only too happy to say yes! (It helps us to achieve our established goal to serve 60 kids over the summer through outreach programming.)
Funded by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, the program is provided at no cost for students in grades 3-6 and will be held at their Sterling Heights campus each weekday between June 22 and July 24. The program places a focus on math and reading language arts instruction led by certified teachers. It will include hands-on projects, games, off-site field trips, daily meals and more.
Each week, we’ll visit on Wednesday afternoons to provide appropriate age lessons using our LEGO Prime Education kits for two sets of children: 3rdand 4th graders and 5th and 6th graders. So far, our outreach programs have provided 60-90 minute one or two-day workshops. In this scenario, we will get to work with the same students each week providing a fantastic opportunity to expand basic knowledge about science, engineering, technology and math (STEM).
And, since part of our purpose is to introduce students to careers in the industry, we hope to invite partners from our Circle of Orbiters to help Marjie lead lessons and talk a little about their jobs.
Now, after achieving our (budgeted) goal to serve (more than) 60 children in one fell swoop, we realize that we underestimated our capacity to reach lots of kids this summer!
We launched our Send Marjie to Summer Camp a couple of weeks ago and so far, we secured a generous gift from Lanzen, Inc which will enable us to commit to another Summer Discover location. We are looking for others to donate and help us fill Marjie’s calendar this summer!
